Description

Silk Painting with Atula Watson, ages 9-14

Welcome to Beginner Silk Painting! In this camp we will be exploring the ancient practice of Silk Painting using the Serti technique, meaning "closing" or "fencing," This practice originated in France in the early 1900s. A resist like gutta is used to create outlines that prevent dyes or paints from bleeding, allowing for crisp color-blocked areas. In this course campers will explore a variety of tools and techniques used to make art on silk. We will go through the process from beginning to end, creating our designs, using resist techniques & silk dyes, as well as explore the use of additives to create wearable art.
